The best beginner fishing lure is hands down the Mepps Aglia. It is an excellent freshwater lure and is amazing for trout. I prefer the deep runners but shallow running Colorado blades are also effective. These are also one of the cheapest lures and are easy spinning. They can be casted or trolled.

Hope you catch a big one.

I would go to the library and find a book on fishing, there will probably be dozens. I used to fish, and the type of tackle that is best for you depends on what fish are in your local waters. Some are bottom feeders and some mid water feeders, so both floats and ledgers can be needed depending. Don't get less than a two metre rod or you won't be able to get far enough out from the bank.

Places like Bargain Madness and Home Bargains are selling cheap fishing gear now so if you have one of these near you might be worth a visit.
